Effluent Treatment Plants

Coir & Textile Effluent

We have wide experience in process development and turnkey execution of ETP’s for Coir, Paper, Textile wet processing and dyeing units.  We are the consultants for setting up ETP’s for about 12 Coir Wet Processing and Dyeing units and more than 300 textile wet processing units.

Pulp & Paper Effluent

We have done plant scale trials for colour and toxicity removal for more than fifty rayon and paper pulp mill effluents all over India.  For the first time in the world, we did the colour removal of pulp and paper mill effluent on a commercial scale at Hindustan Newsprint Ltd, Vellore, Kottayam District, Kerala in 1983 March.  The management of the mill was unable to commission the plant due to public agitation against the discharge of coloured effluent to Moovattupuzha River.  By effectively purifying and decolourising the effluent, we only helped then to commission the plant.  The process we developed and implemented at Hindustan Newsprint Ltd., got National and International recognition and number of national awards.  In continuation of that we conducted plant scale trials all over India for the removal of colour and toxicity from pulp and paper mill effluents.  The coagulants used were wastes from Iron Pickling plants, Ilmenite Beneficiation plants, Sulphate Route Titanium Dioxide Plants, Bulk Drug Manufacturing Units etc.

Dairy Effluent

ELPL’s efforts at developing cost effective treatment scheme’s have helped us in getting appointed us as the know-how supplier and Detailed Engineering. Consultant for “The most Economical type of ETP with latest modern technology to treat Trade Effluent of Milk Chilling centres for M/s. Aavin, a Tamil Nadu State Government undertaking. The novel design proposed for the scheme is being implemented in 8 units across the state of Tamil Nadu. We have also set up several cost effective ETPs for MILMA, Kerala. We have also provided our systems for food Processing units.

Live Stock Units

ELPL’s another Live Stock unit and meat processing units Waste water treatment. Usually effluent from these industries contains high Organic Load and bad odour. We have given complete waste water treatment plant for KLD Board, Thrissur, Meat Products of India, Koothattukualam and Kannur Slaughter house.

Natural Rubber And Rubber Latex

The effluent from Latex centrifuging and skin rubber units, and similar but less toxic effluents from crumb and crepe mills have been a problem till recently due to their high organic load, toxicity and foul smell. This is due to the presence of substantial quantities of rubber particles, proteins, sugar, lipids, carotenoids, and inorganic and organic salts. ELPL took up this challenging area in effluent treatment and found an effective solution.

So far about twenty latex centrifuging units and around sixty other rubber processing industries including M/s. Harrisons Malayalam Ltd., Cochin Malabar Estates Ltd., Hindustan Latex etc. have adopted our process quite successfully and a good number of them have bagged State Awards  for  best  effluent  treatment.  Later on, seeing our success, others have started adopting our process.   But, the fact remains that we are the inventors of this process and the chemical developed and patented by us is the most cost effective coagulant for precipitating the organic present in the effluent.

We are the consultants for Rubber Board for the India Rubber Project aided by World Bank and could satisfy their norms for getting approval

Fishery Effluent

Since the very inception of ELPL, about two decades ago, we have been activity involved in developing & establishing processes for converting fishery wastes to valuable resources. Our Chief Consultant started his Research h & Development activities for utilizing Chitosan made from Prawn waste for heavy metal removal from industrial effluent as well as employing it as a polyelectrolyte for  flocculating & settling fine suspended particles. Later in 1982 he had set up a plant for making Chitin & Chitosan from Prawn & Crab shells. In 1982 he used Chitosan in the plant trails in Hindustan Newsprints, Vellore Kottayam, for precipitating colour bearing Lignin from paper & Pulp mill effluents. He was specially invited by the American Institute of Chemical Engineers in their Diamond Jubilee meeting in 1983 for presenting a paper on heavy metal removal employing Chitosan prepared from fishery wastes. This paper was highly acclaimed & appreciated by the industrialists’ academicians, as well as social & professional bodies alike. From this time onwards Chitosan has been used as flocculating agent & heavy metal adsorbent in the treatment of industrial effluents.

Since 1986, we have set up around fifty effluent treatment plants for fishing processing units including CETPs.  We have also rendered consultancy services for the Fish Meal Production unit of NPM Marine Products, Thrissur.
